The antiquities received from the
Bilaspur district have been increasingly attracting the various museums of the
country, mainly the materials obtained from the zonal are collected in the
Nagpur, Raipur, Jabalpur and Sagar University museums. Prior to the local
collection, antiquities were collected in the district headquarters residence
according to tradition. Important role of museums is unquestionable in terms of
developing interest in public-general towards ancient cultural heritage,
providing their necessary support for awareness, awareness and research.
For the fulfillment of these
objectives, due to the initial effort of the District Archeological Association
and Local Administration, in the direction of the cultural and educational
development of the area, considering the basic requirement of this in Bilaspur
town, the proposal of the department was made by the Department of Culture of
Madhya Pradesh in the year 1976 in the District Archeology Museum The
establishment was accepted in principle.
In the year 1981, the District
Archeology Museum, Bilaspur was established in the year 1981 by the District
Administration temporarily after the building was provided temporarily by the
District Administration in the right side of the Town Hall in Bilaspur town and
in the year 1983, the general public was started. Thereafter, regular
activities of the museum of commencement began in 1984, and this museum is
progressively progressing in the newly formed state.
In the forthcoming development
schemes of the museum for archaeologically rich Bilaspur district, the building
for the museum, the display of antiquities in science and promoting educational
research trends, is to develop mass awareness and necessary efforts are being
made in this direction.
